A mixed breed pitbull named Petunia went missing from Fredericksburg, Virginia 8 years ago. The family had given up on finding the dog after a long search. Now, 8 years later, the dog has been found thousands of miles away in Spenceville Wildlife Area in Northern California.
A woman was walking her dogs in the wildlife area, when she found Petunia and the woman realized the dog was a stray so she took it to the shelter. Petunia had a microchip implant which was found by the animal shelter and they could not believe where it was from when they tracked it down.
Nobody has any idea how the dog got there. There are signs of malnutrition but it is not clear if the dog was taken by someone to California or had been wandering around for the past 8 years and just happened to run out of land. The shelter is working with the family to get it back home for the Holidays.
