Man Prints Fake Obituary for His Own Mother to Get a Break from Work

Scott Bennett of Pennsylvania does not love his mother the way you and I love our mothers.  In fact, Bennett could use the time off work if she bit the dust.  That’s the message we get from his bizarre behavior last week when Bennett fakes his own mother’s death so he would not get fired for taking some time off.

Scott Bennett Wrote a Fake Obit for His Mother to Avoid Work

Bennett needed some time off and, apparently, did not find the typical excuses such as disease and affliction up to par.  Either that, or he had already used those.  So, he put wrote his own mother’s obituary with funeral arrangements and had it printed by the Jeffersonian Democrat.

Typically, newspapers have to verify this information before printing it but Randy Bartley, the editor, was down to the wire and took the obituary on good faith.  Something did initially appear to be fishy because the paper had not been able to confirm the funeral arrangements at the time of printing.  Regardless, Bennett’s plan seemed to work, until Ms. Bennett read the newspaper.

Ms. Bennett had to go to the paper in person so they could verify that she was, in fact, very much alive.  Apparently, she was understanding about everything but we are hoping she at leaves gives Scott a time out.

Even if she doesn’t, the police will.  Scott was arrested and criminally charged.  At least he’s not at work though right?
