Someone has gone all out in this Hunger Games re-enactment with beanie babies.  The video features pretty good filmography and professoinal voice work.  It may be the definitive Hunger Games parody video.

A blue jay plays the role of “Katniss Everbean,” (get it??) while a yellow duck plays her love interest Peeta. (Fan favorites Rue, Haymitch, Caesar Flickerman and others appear as well.) There’s also a bit of Beanie-on-Beanie violence complete with little plastic beans as gore. Oh, the horror!

This awesome parody was created by Jeff Luppino-Esposito, Jamie T. McCelland and an extensive team of puppeteers and voice actors for the website The Online Musical. Is it the best of the recent crop of ‘Hunger Games’ parodies?

Hans Url, a 56 year old man, had a problem.  In order to continue receiving jobless benefits, he had to prove that he was unable to work.  So, he did what any of us would do.  When his wife and son left the house, he went to the garage, fired up an electric miter saw (the kind used to cut crown molding) and cut his foot off at the ankle.  Hans had it all planned out.  The chief problem with his plan, as he saw it, was that, thanks to the miracles of modern medicine, there was always the possibility that his foot could be reattached and, as a result, he would have to go back to work.  So, Hans Url threw his foot and ankle into the fire.

According to Yahoo! News:

“The planning was meticulous,” Franz Fasching, a police spokesman, told the Daily Mail. “[Url] waited until his wife and his adult son had left the house and he was alone. He then switched it on and sliced off his left foot above the ankle–throwing it in the fire so it would not be possible to reattach it before he called emergency services.”

He “then made his way to the garage where he called emergency services and waited for them to arrive.”

Hans was right.  They were unable to re-attach his foot because it was so badly burned.  However, his planned failed once news spread of his plot.  The employment benefits office got wind of his plight:

“He will be assessed once he is out of hospital and we will see what work we can find for him,” Hermann Gössinger, a spokesman for the employment benefits office, said.

In one of the better videos we have seen this year, police in San Diego get involved in a 2 hour standoff with an abandoned car on the freeway.  A man, out on parole, called his parole officer to let him know that his vehicle had broken down and he was going to be late for a meeting.  Police quickly commenced an absurdly tense two hour standoff with the suspect’s vehicle.

They even sent the dog in but, naturally, he found nothing.  The man is out and about, still, and is considered armed and dangerous.

Michael Pratt, of Wesley Chapel, Florida, is not the brightest light on the Christmas tree, as you may be able to discern from this winning photo featuring the subject sporting a red mohawk and a black widow tattoo on the neck.  Regardless, Pratt did manage to get a date which should be cause for celebration.  However, while on said date, Pratt told the woman he needed to get something from the car and asked for the keys, at which point he stole her car.  The woman, being courteous and undoubtedly naive, waited 20 minutes before calling Pratt and that is when she found out what kind of person Michael Pratt really was.

Pratt actually answered the phone, which is pretty strange considering he was now a felon.  When asked about what he was doing, he laughed loudly and told the woman he had just stolen her car.  Yes, Michael Pratt stole a car from a woman who knew his real name, laughed at her about it and admitted to the theft which puts him right at the top of the dumbest criminals of all time.

Even then, the woman tried to call Pratt for four days in hopes of resolving the issue amicably.  Pratt would have none of that though, and admitted to getting rid of the car.  The woman called the police, the car was recovered and Pratt was promptly arrested.

Pratt is being held in the Pasco County Jail where he will almost certainly remain for quite some time.

Whoopi Goldberg sounded like a whoopi cushion on The View this morning, confusing Claire Danes to no end.  The controversial host has had her share of embarassing moments and is no stranger to body humor.  However, even she seemed surprised by what happened today, stating: “Excuse me, I think I just blew a frog out of there!”

A man in Oregon went Jedi on a bunch of customers in a Toys ‘R’ Us store in Oregon this week. Around 10PM, someone from the Jantzen Beach store called 911 to report a problem. It turns out that problem was David Allen Canterbury, a 33 year old man wielding a light saber, you know the Star Wars kind. The caller reported that Canterbury was swinging the sword at customers. The police came and then things got strange.

The police tried to subdue Canterbury and were forced to Taser him but the force was strong with Canterbury and he powered through the initial Taser assault, managing to knock a Taser out of the officer’s hands. He was finally subdued though and thrown into jail where he undoubtedly is plotting his next attack against the Empire.

Canterbury is charged with theft, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and interfering with a police officer. At least he did not use the Jedi mind trick or the Jedi choke hold.

You may be shocked to realize this is not the first assault with a toy case this month. Earlier, a man walked into a former bank branch, thinking it was still a bank, and tried to rob it with a toy gun.

A would-be thief tried to climb through the drive-thru window of the Island Bean Coffee shop in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from the passenger side of a van.  While climbing through the window, the baristas initially began throwing napkins at him in an attempt to confuse him or deter him.  They noticed the man had a weapon of some sort, perhaps a hammer, so they began hitting him in the head with a coffee pot and then it gets weird.

After hitting the man in the head several times with the coffee pot, they gave up and drove away in the van.  Police quickly found the van parked nearby and took the driver in for questioning.  However, the driver of the van was someone the men had picked up and was not in the van at the time of the robbery.  The actual suspects were not in the van at all when police found it.

Jimmy Kimmel started a YouTube challenge centered around the concept of giving your kids terrible Christmas presents and recording their reactions for worldwide entertainment.  The results are everything you could hope for in comic relief at the expense of childhood expectations when giving them such things as rotten bananas, hello kitty sweaters and cans of black beans.  The best video is the montage Kimmel put together of the best videos.

Clay Core, an Oregon State Trooper experienced something truly unique in the annals of high speed chases.  While chasing suspects at more than 100MPH, the suspects began throwing marijuana at his car.  The people in the car were tearing open half pound bags of pot and throwing it at him.  The chase took place just outside of Eugene, Oregon.

The men eventually stopped and were arrested.  Both men were from Washington state.  They were arrested on tampering with evidence and a bunch of other charges, as you might imagine.  Apparently, the men were under the impression that throwing the pot at the officer would get rid of the evidence but it did not.  Police officers were able to find 5 pounds of marijuana along Interstate 5 and in the car.  It took all night to retrieve all the pot.

This is just one of many bizarre criminal stories we have covered recently.  Most recently, a man was arrested for writing an obituary for his living mother to get out of work, another man tried to rob a bank with a toy gun only to find out it was not a bank, a burglar broke into a house only to get drunk and pass out on the couch and a sheriff was arrested for trying to bail prisoners out of jail in exchange for meth only to be locked up in a jail named after himself.

Ok, so they are not actually babies but they are super little!  The video says they are five years old but they seem a lot smaller than that.  Maybe they do years differently in Korea?  The video shows two kids, toddlers, babies or whatever you want to call them trying to do taekwondo, the Korean martial art.  They kick at each other and then just sort of bounce around.  Who knows, maybe if they find themselves in a dark alley getting mugged, the martial arts training will come in handy like it did for this guy.  It’s great fun.

Korea has been in the news quite a bit here lately, most recently for Mies Container, the “hooters for women” restaurant that recently opened in Seoul.
