A Milwaukee man is facing jail time for stealing an electric guitar from a casket. Steven Conard, who worked for the Allouez Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleum, not only stole the guitar but told other people about his plans prior to stealing it.
Randall Jourdan was buried with his cream colored Fender Telecaster because it was one of his favorite things in the world as he had been playing the guitar for 4o years. However, Mr. Conard thought that it was too expensive to end up in a grave so he took it, after telling coworkers, “I have to have that guitar. It’s too expensive to be in a crypt”.
The guitar was worth around $2,000. The funeral home who cared for Jourdan’s body confirmed the request was made to be buried with the guitar. When arrested, Conard said “This isn’t something I normally do. I just have a respect for fine musical instruments.” Oddly enough, he respected musical instruments more than a dying man’s wishes.
Jourdan faces jail time for the theft which occurred on September, 23rd and will be sentenced in January.
